Update: Woodson A “Hero”

July 14, 2010

This is an update to a earlier story. You can find the previous entry right here.

Brian Carriveau of Cheesehead TV spoke with Charles Woodson’s business partner Rick Ruiz yesterday. Ruiz credits Woodson for getting everyone up and out of the house before it burned to the ground.

“He’s a hero if you think about it,” said Rick Ruiz, director of operations for TwentyFour wine. “He actually woke me up, told me to get up.”

The fire department responded to the blaze early Saturday morning. Carriveau reports that Woodson and Ruiz were still up from the night before. Ruiz credits Woodson for waking him up, but he credits an old highlight tape for saving their lives.

“The Charles Woodson 1997 highlight tape saved our lives, because that’s what kept us up so late,” said Ruiz. “Seriously, we were up late watching that tape, and that’s what made us stay up so late to find that smoke in the beginning. Otherwise we probably would have been passed out. I don’t know.”

We already knew that the Packers cornerback was an amazing athlete and an extremely generous person, but this act adds to the legend that is Charles Woodson.

Still not convinced the man is a superhero? In this video clip, I swear I can see Woodson’s cape sticking out from under his jersey as he flies across the line of scrimmage.
