Atari Bigby Signs His Tender

July 27, 2010

According to Adam Schefter, Packers’ safety Atari Bigby signed his tender and will report to training camp on time. By signing his tender, Bigby will earn $1.759 million this season. The strong safety is penciled in to be the regular season starter; however, 3rd-round pick Morgan Burnett is expected to challenge Bigby for playing time this year.

Entering his fifth year, the safety out of Central Florida was reportedly unhappy with his contract. After he did not sign his tender by the June 15th deadline, the Packers threatened to reduce the financial terms of the contract offer but never followed through. Atari Bigby is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent after this season.

In other Packers news, Bryan McIntyre of Cheesehead TV’s The Other 31, released the financial terms of 2nd-round pick Mike Neal’s contract. Per McIntyre:

Neal received a $1.16 million dollar signing bonus, and will earn minimum base salaries throughout the next four seasons. Those salaries are $320,000 (2010), $405,000 (2011), $490,000 (2012), and $575,000 (2013).

Neal also has a $491,500 one-timer clause in his contract, which can be achieved through minimal playing time and a team qualifier. If the one-timer is received, Neal’s four-year deal will be worth $3.441 million dollars, including $1.651 million in guarantees.

With the signing of Atari Bigby and Mike Neal, the Packers have only one player, Bryan Bulaga, yet to agree to terms. Bulaga is expected to sign before training camp begins this Saturday.
