Busy Day: Vikings Sign QB Joe Webb

July 28, 2010

Chip Scoggins and Judd Zulgad, both of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, report that the Vikings have signed sixth-round draft choice Joe Webb. The rookie out of the University of Alabama-Birmingham was originally drafted to play wide receiver. However, at the team’s final minicamp, Webb was lining up under center and throwing passes.

Based on his draft position, Brian McIntyre of Mac’s Football Blog posits that Webb’s contract will be a “four-year deal worth over $1.88 million dollars.”

And a busy day for the Vikings may get busier. Tom Pelissero of 1500ESPN – Twin Cities reports that the Vikings should reach an agreement with Chris DeGeare later today.

With Webb, and presumably DeGeare, in the fold, that leaves the Vikings with two days to negotiate contracts with second-round picks Toby Gerhart and Chris Cook.
