Cook Sizzles While Rosenfels Struggles

August 1, 2010

It’s been a good couple of days for the Minnesota Vikings second-round pick, Chris Cook, and a weekend to forget for veteran quarterback Sage Rosenfels.

Cook intercepted 3 passes during Sunday afternoon’s practice. And Tom Pelissero of 1500ESPN – Twin Cities noted that Cook “could have had a fourth if the sun weren’t in his eyes.”  The cornerback out of the University of Virginia is working with the second-string defense while Benny Sapp is sidelined with cramping issues.

As good as Cook was, quarterback Sage Rosenfels was equally as bad. Rosenfels through 4 interceptions on Saturday and 3 more on Sunday. Rosenfels also finished the team drills on Sunday connecting on a dismal 3 of 9 passes.

You have to wonder if the Favre situation is beginning to impact Rosenfels. The mental aspect of the game — especially for a quarterback — is a large component, and maybe the lack of job security is starting to unravel the veteran. On the other hand, I suppose Rosenfels has no where to go but up. It can’t get any worse, can it?

This is good news regarding Cook. The Vikings need Cook to be able to backup Lito and Antoine asap. Cook’s size should help him line up on the larger recievers -take note Colston!

I could see the Vikings trading or releasing Sage mid-preseason.

If Cook keeps it up, he may wind up the starter in front of Lito. Should be a good battle to watch as training camp progresses.

have to feel bad for Rosenfels. Was brought in as the starting QB LY, and has done nothing since through nofault of his own. Would be nice to see if he could do if given the chance.

And with his contract expiring this year, it doesn’t look like he’ll ever get his shot in Minnesota. I wonder if he’ll even make it through training camp…
