Something In The Water?
The Minnesota Vikings 2010 season has not even begun, and already, it’s not off to the best start. Their beloved quarterback is still undecided about whether or not he can play another season, their star receiver, Sidney Rice, is battling a hip injury and is reportedly unhappy with his contract, and Percy Harvin has been missing-in-action for the past two weeks.
Let’s start with the Favre “news” that’s been heating up lately. Reportedly, Favre visited Dr. James Andrews yesterday to have his surgically repaired left ankle examined. There has been no official word from the Favre camp, but some of his teammates are getting a bit antsy. Jared Allen went as far as putting a time table on Brett’s return.
“I don’t want to drag it out and wait until week one. Brett’s a great guy, he’s a great teammate, he’s a great quarterback, but I think [we need an answer] by the third preseason game. That’s kind of the earmark. We’re ready to rock and roll, and the closer we get to the season, we need stability at quarterback.”
I completely agree with Allen. I would go further to say, the whole will-he-or-won’t-he is beyond ridiculous. We’re halfway into August and Brett hasn’t given his team any indication if he’ll play this season. And the Vikings response is equally sad. They sit back and allow themselves to be bullied by Brett’s ego. Something has to give, or–dare I say it–a schism may (re)develop between Brett and his teammates.
