Trouble Brewing In Minnesota?

August 19, 2010

Trouble In Paradise?

Brett Favre mania is in full force. The Vikings are trying to focus on the entire team — game preparation, practice, roster battles — but the mainstream media knows that people want to hear about Brett Favre. And it’s not Favre’s ankle that’s making headlines today; it’s his opinion of Brad Childress.

Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports spoke to some unnamed Vikings players and revealed a little baggage Favre brings to the team this season.

“Brett thinks Childress has no clue about offense,” a Vikings player said. Another player added, “Brett just doesn’t trust him.”

If Cole’s sources are legitimate, the Vikings locker room could be a tumultuous place this season.

The Vikings overcame a similar obstacle last season by winning football games; the “schism” was bridged by a 6-0 start. However, as Bryan McIntyre points out, last season’s early success may be more difficult to duplicate this year.

“The 2010 Vikings play six 2009 playoff teams in the first half of the season, including road games against New Orleans, the New York Jets, New England Patriots, and Green Bay Packers.”

Childress will most likely downplay or even deny any reports that he and the 41-year-old quarterback have issues to resolve, but can you really trust what Childress says when he doesn’t even have the trust of his own players?

“Chilly can’t even tell the truth about that [Longwell, Hutchinson, and Allen’s trip to Mississippi],” a player said. “I mean, how ridiculous is that? What’s the big deal that he has to lie? Worse, he has to tell other guys to lie for him?”

I agree, Shon. With or without Sidney Rice, the Vikings are stocked with talent. It will be interesting to see how the locker room handles a little adversity.
