Packers Notes: Justin Harrell and Atari Bigby

August 19, 2010

Reason To Smile

Packers fans voiced their frustration and worry as Justin Harrell failed to make an appearance at this morning’s practice. It turns out the concern should have been celebration: Justin Harrell missed practice because his wife gave birth to a baby boy.

Harrell, who missed Tuesday’s practice due to tightness in his back, was excused from today’s practice by Coach Mike McCarthy. In response to Harrell’s back injury, McCarthy said, “Harrell would have practiced today.” Assuming he returns to practice this week, the fourth-year player out of Tennessee should be on the field for the Packers second preseason game on Saturday night against the Seattle Seahawks.

A player who won’t be suiting up against the Seahawks is safety Atari Bigby. Bigby revealed to reporters on Thursday that he could miss 4-8 weeks. When asked about the possibility of starting the year on the physically unable to perform list, Bigby replied that he would be “extremely disappointed.”

If the Packers place Atari Bigby on the PUP list, he would not be eligible to play until week 7 of the regular season. Until Bigby returns, the Packers will start rookie Morgan Burnett at the safety position.
