Darius Reynaud Part Of The Sage Rosenfels Deal
Per the Vikings.com blog, the Minnesota Vikings have sent running back/punt returner Darius Reynaud and quarterback Sage Rosenfels to the New York Giants in exchange for future draft picks. Jason LaCanfora reports the compensation of the deal to be a 5th-round draft choice in the 2011 draft and a conditional pick in 2012 based on Rosenfels’ playing time.
By moving Reynaud east of the Mississippi, the Vikings will be without their best punt returner. Prior to the trade, there was speculation that Reynaud would take over the kick returner duties to lesson the load on Percy Harvin as he recovered from complications with migraines. Now, the Vikings will either use Harvin to return punts, look elsewhere on their roster, or make another move. And as thin as the Vikings’ defensive backfield is, it wouldn’t surprise me to see the team bring in a cornerback who also returns punts.
The latest transaction leaves the Vikings with 73 players on the roster. 20 more moves to make before Saturday’s 5:00 p.m. CDT deadline.
