Trade Rumors: Randy Moss To The Vikings
It started with an accidental Tweet. Then Jay Glazer confirmed it. Once Pro Football Talk’s Rumor Mill got ahold of it, there was no turning back. The rumors are swirling that Randy Moss will be traded to the Minnesota Vikings.
Perhaps it was coincidence that the Vikings traded defensive lineman Jayme Mitchell to the Cleveland Browns today. Perhaps it wasn’t. The move freed up a roster spot, and the Vikings failed to make a corresponding move to fill the spot.
The Patriots are officially saying “there is no trade” but that simply means a deal is yet to be reached. Jay Glazer initially reported that the trade hinged on the Vikings and Moss’ agent reaching a deal on a new contract for the receiver, but Glazer has since updated his Twitter account saying the two teams have been “cranking on it” and a deal could be reached whether or not the Vikings and Moss can agree to contractual terms.
The potential return of Randy Moss to where it all began 13 seasons ago makes sense from multiple perspectives. First, the Vikings need a receiver like Prince needs the cleansing waters of Lake Minnetonka. Second, Brett Favre has wanted to throw the ball to Randy Moss for as long as they have both been in the league. Third, Randy Moss expressed his desire for a trade as early as week 1 of the season. Fourth, both teams have shown they are not afraid to trade away big name players (see: Randy Moss in 2005 and Richard Seymour in 2009). Finally, why not? The Vikings championship window is rapidly closing, and if you can make an upgrade of this caliber, why would you not do it?
Stay tuned for more updates. If you can’t wait, I would suggest clicking over on Pro Football Talk. Unlike Florio, I plan on sleeping tonight.
