Report: Randy Moss To Vikings On Wednesday
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Vikings and Patriots “plan to complete the blockbuster trade” of Randy Moss on Wednesday. Schefter also speculates that the Vikings will send the Patriots a 3rd-round pick in next year’s draft as compensation.
The potential deal is moving extremely quickly, but the timing also makes sense. The Vikings face the Jets on Monday Night Football this week and begin installing their game plan on Thursday. A Wednesday trade allows Moss to be an integral part of the Vikings upcoming matchup.
It looks as if Randy Moss will be a Viking by the end of the day, but as ESPN’s Kevin Seifert wondered aloud this morning, does the current Vikings regime understand what they’re getting themselves into? Granted, Moss is one of the best long-ball receivers to ever step on the field, but off-the-field, Moss has had his fair share of issues.
Tom Pelissero of ESPN1500 did a nice job of illustrating the paradox that is Randy Moss.
“He never stretched with teammates. Rarely spoke with reporters. Once demanded to play (and got his wish) despite a badly injured hamstring,” Pelissero wrote on his Twitter account.
Conversely, “the only scarier player than Randy Moss is Randy Moss with something to prove.”
Additionally, it sounds like this deal will get done with or without the Vikings and Moss working out a contract extension. In effect, Randy Moss could be a 13-game rental.
