Nick Barnett Placed On IR, Team Signs Montgomery
For the second time in three years, Green Bay Packers linebacker Nick Barnett’s season has ended early. Barnett had wrist surgery earlier this week, and on Friday the team placed the 8-year veteran on injured-reserve.
Barnett confirmed the decision on his Twitter account (@NickBarnett), but vowed revenge on next year’s opponents.
“Well it is what it is… Next year someone will pay for this… I will take out my anger and frustrations out on all opposing teams!” Barnett wrote.
To fill Barnett’s roster spot, the Packers announced the signing of defensive end Michael Montgomery. The 6-5, 282-pound defensive lineman was drafted by the Packers in the sixth-round of the 2005 draft by the Packers. Montgomery signed with the Minnesota Vikings this offseason, but failed to stick on the team’s final roster.
Montgomery will help the Packers by providing depth to an injury-depleted defensive line. Coincidentally (or not), the Packers face the Vikings nine days from today. Perhaps Montgomery will also provide the Packers with a scouting report on his former team as well.
