Tuesday Morning Aftermath: Packers Edition

November 2, 2010
Although the team certainly didn’t match the big news around the NFC North yesterday, the Green Bay Packers quietly went about their business on Monday. A day after a gritty win on the road against the New York Jets, head coach Mike McCarthy handed out game balls — a lot of them.
After recording the NFL’s first shutout of the 2010 season, the Packers handed out a multitude of well-deserved game balls. On offense, the award went to Greg Jennings for his 6 catch 81-yard performance. Jennings was a long bright spot on offense, whereas the defense and special teams were the heroes of the day. The entire defense squad and the coaches were given game balls for shutting down the Jets’ offense. Punter Tim Masthay had his finest performance as a pro and merited the special teams award. Finally, the “big hit” award went to Anthony Smith for his heads up special teams tackle on Jets punter Steve Weatherford’s as he faked a punt and tried to run for a first down.
Even though injuries have decimated the Packers, coaches Mike McCarthy and Dom Capers continue to field a competitive team. And with the return of cornerback Al Harris and safety Atari Bigby by the end of the week, the Packers’ defense should only get better.
