Joe Webb: From Emergency QB to Emergency WR?

December 3, 2010

The Vikings faithful have been clamoring to see rookie sixth-round draft pick Joe Webb on the field all season. Webb has been the emergency quarterback all year, but he is yet to see the field. Well, careful what you wish for Vikings fans because you might just get it. With the Vikings’ wide receiver corps ailing, interim head coach Leslie Frazier told reporters on Thursday that the team is looking at all options, including using Webb at receiver.

“It’s possible and it wouldn’t be ideal, just because he hasn’t played receiver,” Frazier said. “But we’ll explore all avenues based on who’s available. We’ve been talking about some different things as a staff. But we’re going to have to have a Plan B and maybe a Plan C just in case something happens with Percy or with Greg.”

With Percy Harvin battling migraines, Greg Lewis dealing with a concussion, and Sidney Rice resting his surgically-repaired hip, Frazier’s team found itself thin at receiver during Thursday’s practice.

It may be too soon for the Joe Webb-mania to begin, however. Frazier said Rice’s absence was precautionary, and Percy Harvin has missed practice due to migraines in the past and still played on Sunday. Just to be safe, keep an eye on Friday’s practice report as well as the inactive list on Sunday before you go out and buy your purple, number 14 jersey.
