Metrodome Roof Collapses; Giants-Vikings to Play in Detroit

December 12, 2010

I had to ask.

Yesterday, I wondered aloud if things could get any stranger for the Vikings this season. Today, the sky fell – literally. Around 5:00 a.m. Sunday morning, the roof of the Metrodome collapsed. Amazingly, the local FOX affiliate in Minneapolis had cameras rolling in the Metrodome when the roof came down. (Click here to see the video.)

After considering many options, the NFL opted to play the game in Detroit. On Monday night, the Giants and Vikings will play at Ford Field at 6:20 p.m. CST. The game will be broadcast in the television markets of New York City, Minneapolis, Rochester, Mankato, and Duluth. The game will also be available to DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket subscribers. If none of these options work for you, the NFL Network will replay the game at midnight.

The Vikings announced that refunds will be given for all original ticket holders. But, if any diehard fans want to venture to Detroit, original ticket holders will be given preferred seating along the 50-yard line. Anyone else who makes the trip to Detroit will be given free admission tickets to the game. By showing up at the box office beginning at 8:00 a.m. CST, you will receive tickets to watch a free football game.

Sun Country airlines is getting in the spirit as well. They are offering a discounted, last-minute fare from Minneapolis to Detroit: $250 plus taxes. Call 800-359-6786 to book.
