Frazier’s Staff Begins To Take Shape

January 6, 2011

Vikings’ head coach Leslie Frazier has begun making changes to his coaching staff, but as of Wednesday, most of the major positions remained intact with no changes to offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell or special teams coordinator Brian Murphy.

Multiple reports suggest that the majority of the defensive staff will be retained, including Fred Pagac as defensive coordinator. However, there has been speculation that former San Francisco 49ers coach Mike Singletary may join the defense in some capacity. Singletary and Frazier were teammates on the Chicago Bears 1985 Super Bowl team.

Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that three assistant coaches have been relieved of their duties: Quarterbacks coach Kevin Rogers, offensive line coach Pat Morris, and assistant offensive line coach Jim Hueber.

Another absence that must be filled is running backs coach. Former running backs coach Eric Bieniemy has become the offensive coordinator at the University of Colorado, and Zulgad contends that job could be filled by “longtime NFL assistant and former player Johnny Roland, whom Frazier knows from their days together in Chicago.”
