Updating the Vikings’ Coaching Staff

January 18, 2011

All has been quiet — and cold — at Vikings facilities in Eden Prairie, Minnesota this offseason, but the hiring of new coaches should heat things up soon.

The only official moves made by the team so far have been the release of quarterbacks coach Kevin Rogers and offensive line coaches Pat Morris and Jim Hueber. However, former special teams coordinator Brian Murphy has left the team for the same position with the Carolina Panthers.

Multiple outlets are reporting that Leslie Frazier’s former teammate, and former San Francisco 49ers head coach, Mike Singletary will join the Vikings’ defensive coaching staff as soon as this week.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Vikings are still waiting to hear from former Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels, but Jeremy Fowler of the Saint Paul Pioneer Press offers another suggestion for the offensive staff: Jim Zorn.

Mike Wobschall of Vikings.com expects “many NFL teams to finalize some positions on their coaching staffs this week because the Senior Bowl begins this weekend in Alabama.” And with more teams making their exit from the postseason, the Vikings options continue to grow.
