Pro Football Weekly Ranks The Green Bay Packers’ Blue-Chip Players

January 28, 2011

The print version of this week’s Pro Football Weekly features the “Top 50 Players of 2010” voted on by coaches and evaluators. The list, which is not published in its entirety online yet, has some high praise for a number of Green Bay Packers’ players.

Packers on the list:

2. Aaron Rodgers
6. Clay Matthews
35. Greg Jennings
38. Tramon Williams
39. Charles Woodson

An email from my father aptly sums up what it means to have 5 players in the top 50 in a particular season.

Ron Wolf used to say a team needed 4 or 5 blue chip players to make a run to the Super Bowl. This group is the most talented since the 1996 team. Interesting that the first three players on the list were drafted by Ted Thompson, the fourth was a rookie free agent, and the fifth was a free agent. Lots of credit goes to the coaching staff.

And when you think of the next tier of players: Finley, Collins, Jenkins, Raji, Shields, Bishop, Bulaga, Sitton, Hawk/Barnett, that’s a heck of a lot of talent with great chemistry.

I couldn’t have said it better myself.
