Report: Packers To Extend Mike McCarthy

February 16, 2011

Five years into his tenure as Green Bay Packers head coach, Mike McCarthy has accumulated an overall record of 53 wins, 34 losses, and a Super Bowl title.

According to Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Packers will reward that success with a three-year contract extension. The contract will reportedly average $5 million dollars per year and put McCarthy among the top-10 highest paid coaches in the league.

McCarthy’s contract comes days after the Packers officially announced the extension of the man who hired the head coach, general manager Ted Thompson. Thompson and the Packers reached an agreement on a contract extension back on December 13, but the team did not release official word until late last week.

As the NFL heads into uncharted territory with uncertainty surrounding an expiring collective bargaining agreement, the Packers’ staff has solidified two of their most important members for the next five seasons.
