Jarrett Bush & Desmond Bishop To Be Honored By The California State Assembly

April 7, 2011

It’s fairly common to see the Wisconsin state legislature honor members of the Green Bay Packers; after all, the team is the only publicly owned franchise in the NFL. It’s not so common, however, to see another state bestow the same honor on Packers players.

On Thursday, that’s exactly what is happening on the floor of the state capital in California. State Assemblywoman Mariko Yamada of Solano County will recognize Jarrett Bush and Desmond Bishop who hail from two cities in her district.

“Both Jarrett and Desmond are a source of great pride to the people of California and their hometown communities of Fairfield and Vacaville — not just for their outstanding play on the field, but for their off-the-field activism and commitment to their communities,” Yamada said in a press statement. “They deserve to be recognized for their continued public service to their communities, in the 8th Assembly District and their new home in Green Bay, and I hope that they will continue to use their gifts to benefit others.”

The public service that Yamada references are the contributions the two players make to their alma maters. Jarrett Bush has founded a football camp at Will C. Wood High School, and Desmond Bishop hosts an annual football camp at Fairfield High School. Bishop’s camp specifically benefits at-risk youth.

Bishop was a beast throughout the playoffs and Super Bowl. He hit as hard and played as well as Wayne Simmons did in the Super Bowl XXXI season.
