Bulaga, Crabtree, & Neal: Workout Warriors

April 14, 2011

Despite the ongoing lockout, a few players are trying to maintain business as usual. A trio of second-year Packers players — Bryan Bulaga, Mike Neal, and Tom Crabtree — have set up their own offseason training program. And it’s close to home.

Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press Gazette caught up with the three as they worked out at the Green Bay branch of House of Speed. He notes that the players have set up a routine that closely mirrors a typical McCarthy offseason.

Of course nothing is typical about this offseason, but the players are doing their best to keep their focus on football.

“I just wanted to try to keep things as normal as I can as far as football goes and as far as working out,” said Crabtree. “I didn’t want to be back home in Ohio because when you’re back home, you’re not in your normal routine. Here, you’re working out with guys that know what it takes.”

Bulaga said he’s trying to keep his routine “as similar as possible” to a standard offseason, but as a second-year player admits he doesn’t know what a typical offseason looks like.

Mike Neal, who spent the majority of the season on injured-reserve, has been in regular contact with Packers’ team physician Dr. Pat McKenzie (injured players are still allowed to have contact with team physicians). McKenzie told Neal he should be ready to go by training camp.

So whenever the lockout is resolved, you can count on Bulaga, Crabtree, and Neal being ready to pick up exactly where they left off.
