Mason Crosby Wants To Stay In Green Bay

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the 2011 NFL season, Mason Crosby is certain he wants to return to the Packers.

When the lockout dust finally settles, Crosby’s situation will become more clear. Scheduled to become a free agent this offseason, Crosby has accrued four seasons since being drafted by the Packers in the sixth-round of the 2007 draft. Depending on the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, Crosby will either be a restricted or an unrestricted free agent. Regardless of the label, Crosby wants to remain in Green Bay.

“The hope is that we’ll get this figured out, I’ll be unrestricted, and be able to sign back here in Green Bay,” said Crosby via Fox 11 in Green Bay. “That’s my hope for all of this.”

The Packers are also hopeful to bring back Crosby. Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette reports the Packers “plan to re-sign him once the lockout is lifted.”

The mutual interest between Crosby and the team makes sense. The former Colorado Buffalo is unlikely to hit pay dirt in free agency, and the Packers’ coaching staff has always believed in Crosby’s ability.

Whenever the lockout ends, it looks like Ted Thompson’s first move will be to splash into free agency with his typical cannonball and re-sign a field goal kicker with a 78.1% success rate.

Who says Ted never signs the big free agent?
