The Frazier Way

July 4, 2011

After building a football program from the ground up at Trinity International University, the private college in Deerfield, Illinois honored Leslie Frazier by naming their football stadium after him. Now the Mayor of Frazier’s hometown, Columbus, Mississippi, wants to name a street after the Vikings head coach as well.

Frazier, who is spending the Fourth of July holiday in Columbus, took time out from relaxing with his family to meet with Mayor Robert Smith. Frazier and Smith spoke of setting up a scholarship for youth in Columbus.

“They need to understand that coming from a small town in Mississippi doesn’t mean their dreams can’t come true,” Frazier said.

Mayor Smith praised Frazier for his calm, yet effective, approach.

“He’s a role model for any student growing up,” Smith said. “He shows that regardless of race or nationality, you can be anything you want to be. He’s low-key, but he gets his point across, and players love playing for him. All the accolades he’s received in his lifetime, he deserves them.”

In addition to his work in Minnesota and his hometown, Frazier is also one of 53 NFL spokesmen for All Pro Dad. All Pro Dad is a Family First program, which is dedicated to “helping men to become better fathers.”

Whether it be on-the-field or off-the-field, Leslie Frazier is a winner. Whenever his coaching career comes to an end, maybe the great state of Minnesota will be inclined to name a facility or street after him as well.
